Dr. Manuela Veloso, Ph.D

Head of AI Research at JPMorganChase and Herbert A. Simon University Professor Emerita in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University

Talk title: Humans and AI: The Journey for the Finance Domain

Manuela Veloso is Head of AI Research at JPMorganChase and Herbert A. Simon University Professor Emerita in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Veloso pursues research interests in core AI as AI robot and digital agents with perception, cognition, and action. She further aims at a seamless human-AI symbiotic interaction. Veloso is a member of the National Academy of Engineering for “her contributions to artificial intelligence and its applications to robotics and to the financial domain.” She is a past president of AAAI, and a co-founder of RoboCup. Veloso is a fellow of AAAI, IEEE, ACM, and AAAS. She has a BSc. and MSc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from IST, an MA in Computer Science from BU, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from CMU. Dr. Abhijit Bose, Ph.D

Senior Vice President at Capital One

Talk title: Perspectives on the Future of Gen AI in Financial Services

Abhijit Bose is Senior Vice President in Enterprise AI/ML Platforms & Engineering at Capital One. He leads the development, execution and strategy for enterprise AI/ML platforms and infrastructure at the company. He is also focused on building enterprise foundational Gen AI capabilities, such as LLM pre-training, fine-tuning, guardrails, RAG pattern, multi-agentic workflows etc, including a number of human-in-the-loop applications in various stages of development.

Before joining Capital One in 2020, Abhijit was with Facebook AI Research as their East Coast Head of Engineering, working on large-scale graph neural networks, early transformer models and computer vision. Abhijit also held various roles at JP Morgan, IBM TJ Watson Research, Google, and American Express. He is credited with approximately 3500 citations on his research publications and holds more than 30 patents.

Abhijit holds an MS and Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also holds a Ph.D in Engineering Mechanics with a specialization in High Performance Computing (HPC) from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Qiang Yang, Ph.D

Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer of WeBank and Professor Emeritus of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Talk title: Integrating Federated Learning and LLM with Application to Finance

Qiang Yang is the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer of WeBank and Professor Emeritus of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is a fellow of AAAI, ACM, IEEE, AAAS and a member of Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Royal Society of Canada (RSC). His research interests include transfer learning and federated learning. He is the founding EiC of two journals: IEEE Transactions on Big Data and ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology. He has been a conference or program chair for IJCAI, AAAI and ACM SIGKDD, and has received Distinguished Service Awards from IJCAI and ACM SIGKDD. His latest books are Transfer Learning, Federated Learning, Privacy-preserving Computing and Practicing Federated Learning. His publications have been cited over 130,000 times, according to Google Scholar.

Dr. Rama Cont, Ph.D

Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford

Talk title: Harnessing Generative AI for risk management

Rama CONT is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, where he holds the Chair of Mathematical Finance.

His research focuses on stochastic analysis,  mathematical modelling in finance, mathematical foundations of Machine Learning, and computational methods in finance.  His recent work includes the design of generative methods for financial scenario simulation, and the study of deep network behavior of ResNets. 

Cont has extensively collaborated with financial institutions and FinTechs; he currently serves as Scientific Advisor to Synthera AI and 73Strings. He received the Louis Bachelier Prize from the French Academy of Sciences in 2010 and was elected SIAM Fellow in 2017 for  « contributions to stochastic analysis and mathematical modelling in finance ». In 2017 he received the Royal Society Award for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research for his work on systemic risk modelling
